Visual Growth

Preface

Inspiration often stems from simple something; in a matter of seconds, my mind transforms or, ferments. It's like a cube made up of some rods twisted into something else. Then, it's temporarily fixed to be further experimented with when there's a piece of time to delve deeper into the ideas.

Neon

I enormously admire backgrounds with neon lights, whether their rendering or their essence. Now, more and more of such constructed scenes make me discerning. Perhaps the initial reason could be traced back to early Pixar animated films, such as "Toy Story" and the "Cars" series, or some Japanese anime, such as "Akira" or "EVA." It could also be due to my exposure during my formative years to many contemporary European ambience or installation art mediated through these mediums.

But every time these visuals are mentioned, the first things that come to mind are Jan Röed, Johan Söderberg, Kristian Petri's documentary "Tokyo Noise," and Yasujirō Ozu's "The End of Summer." This kind of visual representation, I believe, somewhat dilutes the immediate visual experience. How to better utilize its characteristics to create a distinct cognitive impact is what I aim to do in Project 5.

Nature

Further experimental ideas are rooted in my love for nature. Two works have inspired my determination to include nature. One is Janet Laurence's "Heartshock," and the other is Estelle Chrétien's "Opération terrestre." Nature and its growth, perhaps, is what enriches the layers of Project 5.

Conceptualization

The idea is to showcase natural growth through artificial means and contrast it with nature at that moment (both in terms of time and nature). As nature grows (perhaps eternally), I hope the artificial can be one-sided and stagnant, thereby confusing the audience about the concepts of synthetic and natural. This will be presented entirely visually (though I also want to incorporate more experimental auditory elements if they serve the purpose of what I like to showcase).

Epilogue

Recently, I had an inspiration for Lit Project 4. However, I need to take better notes due to laziness and busyness. I hope that my work becomes more complete as my notes become richer.
