Preface

The initial inspiration in 2003 arose from a sleepless night spent smoking outdoors. As I listened to AC/DC's "Back In Black," memories surfaced of a recent conversation with かさん where I mentioned my growing obsession with the black.

"Unconsciously, for about four or five years, my wardrobe had gradually shed all colours except black. Though it seemed devoid of attachment, the presence of colour on my body felt disconcerting," I remarked. "Yet lately, I find myself inexplicably drawn deeper into this obsession."

Refutation

The genesis of Project 2 traces back to an article I penned in 2019 titled "Midnight Talks." Influenced by my early encounters with Jorge Luis Borges's speculative short story "Tlön, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius," this piece delves into idealist philosophies surrounding 'being' succinctly and abstractly. Despite lacking a definitive conclusion, let alone my ability to deconstruct it, perhaps the article serves as a literal manifestation of my thoughts. Contemporary art serves as a vehicle for personal expression, enabling me to present my musings from a more relatable perspective.

Contemporary Age

Another pivotal influence stemmed from an inexplicable exhibition I caught at Mona a few years ago: James Turrell's 2017 conceptual piece, "Weight of Darkness." I traversed a lengthy, dimly lit corridor before settling into a cozy seat. The sensation of my hand touching the plush sofa revealed it perched upon a high platform. Surrounded by impenetrable darkness and eerie silence, I sat immersed for half an hour. Despite initially dismissing this enigmatic 'exhibit' in my earlier years in the art scene, I now recognize its profound merit.

Conceptualization

In Project 2, I aim to vividly portray scenes from "Midnight Detailed Talk," employing tactile, visual, and auditory stimuli to evoke parallel contemplation, eschewing rigid explanations.

Epilogue

Many believe audiences should form their own opinions on so-called 'art.' However, today's contemporary art scene often resembles a process of passive acceptance rather than open exchange or dialogue. While I assign names to many of my 'experiments,' including this Project, I concede to the necessity of individual expression over Jackson Pollock's numerical simplicity.
